The Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation helps to save you energy by learning the temperatures that you like whilst you're at home, and programming itself based upon your actions/preferences. During the first few days after installation, the Nest learning thermostat will pick up on any patterns that you have and will create a weekly schedule based upon how you like your temperatures and when.

The Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation also learns how quickly it can heat up your home, and how quickly your home cools. Taking into consideration the outside temperature the Nest 3rd Generation can figure out how early it needs to turn your heating on to ensure that the target temperature is reached on time, and vice versa by learning when to turn it off to avoid any overshoots.

You can now also control your hot water with the Nest Learning Thermostat. Using the Nest mobile app you can set a hot water schedule.
